Both are never to be forgotten greats, so it’s tough to know who would win, maybe they would cross the wire in a Dead Heat. Know that Ruffian had galloped her way into the hearts of people across the nation in her brief 2 seasons and she would never be forgotten. :). Ruffian too equaled track records, and she broke them. Very few times do you get a horse that has all three. And, who’s she could of even beat Man O’ War!

She also shattered the previous record for a 2 year old at 6 furlongs at Saratoga, going 1:08 3/5, faster than any of the greats of the past including Man o’ War and Secretariat. :). From his maiden through his last race with Sir Barton, Man O’ War stunned America with his speed and all around talent. Winning her first race in an allowance race where she won by almost 5 lengths. Man o’War did, and that is what made him great. Three things (speed, heart and courage) are critical to a racehorses character.
